Less than a week after Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was horrifically assassinated at Utah Valley University, Democrats decided to launch a voter registration push on college campuses across the country.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) on Monday announced an initiative for National Voter Registration Week of Action, which will include 50 events across 27 states and at least 30 colleges campuses in red and blue states, as well as farmers’ markets and stadium events.
“…Democrats are meeting new voters where they are and building the Democratic infrastructure we need to win up and down the ballot in 2025, 2026, and beyond,” the DNC said in a press release.
The initiative is the “first time in years” the DNC has directly supported voter registration events around National Voter Registration Day, according to NewsNation
“It comes as the DNC has fallen behind the Republican Party in registering voters. The New York Times recently reported the GOP registered 4.5 million more voters than Democrats between the 2020 and 2024 elections, within the 30 states that keep voter registration records by political party,” per the report.

DNC officials told the outlet some of the events this week will have increased security following the assassination of Kirk, and after a false bomb threat at DNC’s D.C. headquarters on September 11.
DNC Chair Ken Martin released a video to X on Wednesday condemning the assassination of Kirk as a “despicable cowardly act” before blaming President Donald Trump for inflaming political tensions.
Kirk, 31, was shot and killed on September 10 during the first stop of his “American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University. The conservative firebrand and devout follower of Jesus Christ is survived by his wife Erika and his two young children.
The suspect in Kirk’s assassination has been arrested and identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. Authorities have since uncovered that Robinson was a radical leftist who was in a romantic relationship with a man who identifies as transgender.
Kirk has been largely credited with using his massive grassroots organization to mobilize the youth vote for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, with exit polls showing tremendous rightward-shift among Gen-Z voters.
