Disney and ABC have caved to the pressure from boycotts and left-wing backlash and announced Monday that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be returning to the air on Tuesday night.
Disney announced on Monday that Kimmel’s suspension has been lifted.
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” Disney said in a statement. “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
Kimmel’s late-night show was put on suspension last week after he said the man who was arrested and accused of murdering conservative activist Charlie Kirk was “MAGA.”
In the wake of Kimmel’s false claim, two of ABC’s largest affiliates, Nexstar and Sinclair, decided not to air Kimmel, leading to Disney and ABC’s decision to suspend the show.
Kimmel also is said to have refused to apologize to Disney and ABC executives, which reportedly prolonged his suspension.
The suspension, though, brought wide condemnation from the far left and many Hollywood elites protested loudly over the punishment. It also drove a cancellation drive for Disney’s streaming service Disney+.
Kimmel agreed to come back after discussions with Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney co-chair of entertainment Dana Walden. CNBC reports Kimmel will address his suspension.
