Phyllis Schlafly looms large in any history of the conservative movement. Schlafly didn’t just galvanize women who’d been historically sidelined in policy debates, she also brought the ideas of limited government into the mainstream of America’s national conversation. Her self-published 1964 manifesto, "A Choice Not an Echo," sold 3 million copies and helped fuel Barry Goldwater’s rise to national prominence, planting the seeds of the Reagan Revolution.
