Shedeur Sanders’ Week 12 win in his NFL debut as a starter was the first time in a generation that a rookie starter had won a game for Cleveland. Now, he’ll get a chance to see if he can make it two in a row.
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski announced on Monday that even though former starter and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel had cleared concussion protocol, Sanders would be the starter on Sunday against the 49ers.
Shedeur Sanders, the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders, received presidential praise for his performance in the win against the Raiders.
The president wrote on Truth Social, “Shedeur Sanders was GREAT. Wins first game, career start, as a pro (for Cleveland). Great Genes. I TOLD YOU SO!”
Sanders was 11-of-20 for 209 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. While the Raiders are far from the list of the league’s most elite defenses, it wasn’t a bad game for the rookie, and he did have a nice 52-yard completion to Isaiah Bond.
The 49ers will represent a much greater challenge for Sanders. Despite a respectable 7-4 record, San Francisco is third in its division and in desperate need of a win to move past the Seahawks and eventually challenge the Rams for the division lead.
