Colorado’s HB25-1312: A Dangerous Law Threatening Parental Rights and Free Speech
HB25-1312 enables schools to push gender ideology, framing normal puberty struggles or nonconformity as signs of a new identity. This isn’t education—it’s indoctrination, exposing young children to concepts they’re too impressionable to fully grasp. Schools should prioritize fundamentals like math and history, not serve as platforms for gender propaganda. The law risks grooming kids into identities they may later regret, potentially leading to irreversible decisions.
Worse, it labels “deadnaming” (using a child’s birth name) and “misgendering” (using biological pronouns) as “coercive control” in custody disputes. Parents who reject a child’s taught identity could lose custody—a chilling form of thought control. Although amended to remove some controversial provisions, the law still defines intentional, persistent deadnaming or misgendering as discriminatory under Colorado’s Anti-Discrimination Act, threatening free speech.
