President Trump signed a proclamation honoring the life of Charlie Kirk on Wednesday, ordering all US flags to be flown at half-staff until sunset on September 14.
On Wednesday, Charlie Kirk was shot in an assassination attempt while he was speaking at Utah Valley University.
A graphic video of the incident showed Kirk being hit in the neck before falling to the ground.
The 31-year-old political commentator, activist, and co-founder of Turning Point USA tragically passed away in the hospital hours after the terrorist attack during a stop on his “Prove Me Wrong” tour at the college campus. He is survived by his wife, Erika, and two children, a three-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy.
Authorities arrested a suspect immediately after the shooting, but it was later revealed that he was not the gunman. The suspect is still at large after shooting Kirk from a building roughly 200 yards away from where he was speaking.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, President Trump responded to Kirk’s death, describing him as “Great, and even Legendary.”
“No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family,” the President said.
“Charlie, we love you!”
Trump later announced that he is ordering all American flags to be lowered to half-staff for four days and signed a proclamation of his “respect for the memory of Charlie Kirk.”
In honor of Charlie Kirk, a truly Great American Patriot, I am ordering all American Flags throughout the United States lowered to Half Mast until Sunday evening at 6 P.M.
The proclamation reads,
As a mark of respect for the memory of Charlie Kirk, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, September 14, 2025. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this tenth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
